EDD

Dr. YC finally confirmed my bb’s estimated due date (EDD) with us today! Based on the bb size of 16mm, she estimated I am in my 8weeks 4days and the EDD will be 28 Oct! Haha….a nice number for 4D betting – 1028!

Our naughty bb was playing “hide and seek” with us during the scanning. I was so worried and panicky when I see an empty sac on the screen. But seems that my gynae was calm and she managed to “locate” my bb within few sec, he/she was hiding at a corner of the sac! This is the reason why the u/s pictures today are not very clear. Hubby commented that our bb is very shy! *giggles*

Today’s visit is an amazing experience, our bb is taking shape! We can see his/her head with little arms and legs on the ultrasound scan. BB’s little heart was also pumping aggressively! Dr. YC was then turned on the volume to let us hear the bb’s heartbeat! It is very strong and rapid, just like horse galloping, beating at a rate of 160-170! This is really surreal manz!

Well, after the scanning, DR. YC discussed and explained with us about the tests that we may need to consider, namely blood test for Thalassaemia (for both husband and wife) and Down Syndrome Test. We will definitely go for the both tests to ensure everything is ok and enjoy our parenthood. As for the Down Syndrome Test, due to my age (below 35) and the risk of miscarriage incurred (1/300), Amniocentesis is not recommended at this point of time. We are given two other better options: Triple Test (~$110 with 70-80% accuracy) and OSCAR Test (~$315 with >90% accuracy). We have tentatively decided on OSCAR test due to its higher accuracy, and it is scheduled to carry out when I reach 12 weeks. Really not cheap to have a baby, fingers crossed for us ya!

AGAIN

We went to say hi to our bb again yesterday. This is our 2nd gynae visit within 3 days! Yes, 3 days, really burnt a big hole in our pocket. Thanks to the 洋参鸡汤 I had on Friday night, never know that it can be so cooling, and caused spotting again! Had a big scare and did not sleep well for the whole night.

Dr. YC performed a detailed check and scan on me, trying to find out the root of problem, but more to find out whether bb is ok? She was happy that my gestational sac and yolk sac have grown bigger, with no sign of shrink or crumple. Good to hear that! And the little one greeted all of us with heartbeat, as we can see the flickering line (fetus) on the screen! Since there was not any blood cot at the edge of the placenta, Gynae assured us that bb are perfectly ok, and is measures 1.8mm in size. Haha...so tiny, really amazing right?

Of course, I was advised to rest well and continue to be "tai tai" for another 2 weeks. Poor my hubby, have to take over my duty in doing housework. Feeling bad about this...

YOLK

My gynae called and requested me to go down for an earlier appointment due to my staining problem. Thus, we went to see her yesterday to have my very first pre-natal check up! According to my LMP (last menstrual period), my bb should be around 5 weeks 3 days old. I know it is still very early and we probably unable to detect anything from the ultrasound scan. On the way going to clinic, I was praying hard to see a water bag (gestational sac) in my womb to make sure that my bb is in the right place!

First sign of life!

And Yes! We manage to see a gestational sac (black area inside the red circle) with >1cm on the U/S scan! My gynae (Dr. YC) commented that it is bigger than what she expected! Normally at around 5weeks, the size of sac should be less than 1cm. Moreover, she detected a yolk sac (small white circle at upper right of sac) in water bag, which usually only appear on U/S scan at around 6 weeks. Therefore, Dr. YC concluded that instead of 5w3d, my bb should be closer to 6weeks old! Well done baby, keep it up! Hope to see your strong heartbeat during our next gynae visit on 22nd Mar.

SCARY

I have called the gynae upon my positive test, my first pre-natal check up will be on 10 Mar. Hoho…seems very long, really hope that the bb’s heartbeat can be detected by then (should be in my week 6), if not, at least the sac to confirm bb was implanted at the right place. Meanwhile, I was asked to monitor myself as I saw some brownish discharge before HPTs testing. I still thought that my AF (Auntie Flow) was on the way. However, it did not show up after waiting for 5-6days, and this prompts me for the HPT tests.

Guess what, the “BROWN MONSTER” came and visit me last night! It came on and off, but it brought along its friend “PINK MONSTER” to knock my door this morning! Oh dear! How can this happen?! This definitely not a good sign right?

I quickly rang my gynae but was directed to TMC 24hr clinic (Thomson Medical Centre) because my gynae’s clinic is closed on Sunday. We rushed to TMC after talking to the nurse of 24hr clinic. Luckily, their service is not bad (keke...meaning that there are rooms for improvement!), I managed to see the GP within 1/2hr. The doc can only see some whitish discharge after checking on me. He rang my gynae and discussed with her on the treatment. I was given a hormone jab (should be progesterone) and on Duphaston to stabilize the pregnancy. They advised me to minimize my movement and rest as much as I can. Feeling much better now, will call my gynae tomorrow to see whether I need to bring forward my appointment with her (Shoo-ing away the monsters!)

POSITIVE!

Although blogging is not something new to me, this is my very first blog. I am still exploring and figuring out, how to BLOG? I hope by the time I share this blog with you (hopefully in 2 months time, hee…), it will be more presentable.

Yes! Yes! Yes! As you can guess from the title of this post, the reason we decided to blog was due to the fact that we are expecting our first baby! We would like to document our project B and progress of our baby. After a long wait of 14 months, I finally tested positive with 3 HPTs (Home Pregnancy Kit) on 29 Feb 2008! Why 3 HPTs? It is simply because we were kiasu, just wanted to triply sure! Also due to their affordable price, only ~$0.80/strip. It was unbelievable and shock to us especially after so many failed cycles! I am glad that we are finally here!

In fact, this “Positive” came when least expected. We actually decided to put our TTC (trying to conceive) plan on hold first as I wanna secure a job before conceiving (I am currently unemployed). I could say this is actually a big joke, we never expect we could succeed this cycle, with minimal BD (baby-dance), and I actually did not control my diet by avoiding cooling foods/fruits and cold drinks! I even drank some CHOYA with my friends during our CNY gathering! Haha…

Anyway, this baby is very precious to us, we still treasure him/her very much no matter what! Of course we will need to do some adjustment/find alternative ways if I cant find a job soon. We will only announce the news to the world (hoho…relatives and friends) after I passed my first trimester (Hee…I am ~5 weeks now), so that will be 2 months later! Maybe you will find us superstitious, but believe me, succeeding after more than a year of TTC roller-coaster ride, you really dare not risk any of the old wife's tales! So friends, pardon us if we only share the news with you after 2 months. Keeping our fingers crossed, hopefully we will have smooth 9 months ahead!
